Creating a Vision Board=Success

The Vision Board is a great visual for anyone when setting goals.  It is a great way to outline the goals that you are working towards in an organized manner and with pictures to support your goals.  Below are some pictures of the vision board that I created with one of my older clients.  This really helped for organizing, planning, problem solving and other skills.  We created the outline and the categories (i.e. School and Career, Finances) and then it was filled up with goals and pictures.  In the middle is a ladder with road signs, at the bottom rung of the ladder I have "Wrong Way," next is "Caution", in the middle is "No U-Turn."  At the top of the ladder it says "Success Next Exit" and " "Welcome to Success."  As the client gets closer to goal, the popsicle tick with his/her picture can be moved up the ladder towards success.  There are many different ways that you can create your vision board.   We used a big piece of poster board and had 4 different categories in each corner.  If you create a vision board, I would love to see pictures and how you organized yours.  Let me know how it turns out!

PediaStaff has a free app called TxTools that provides lots of beneficial resources for therapists and teachers for daily tasks with clients/students.  Some of the free tools include the following:

-IEP Scheduler:  Great tool to assist with keeping track of the exact dates of upcoming IEPs, evaluations, or specific timelines for initial evaluations.
Picture
Tally This is a tool that keeps an ongoing tally throughout therapy activities.
Age Finder determines the student's chronological age
Percent Right calculates the percentage correct during trials

Tx Tools is definitely an app to favorite, especially since it is free and more utilities and improvements will be added in the future.  Also check out some different ways that you could incorporate this app into your therapy sessions.

Requesting a Letter of Recommendation

4/25/2012

The letter of recommendation is an important component in the process of applying to graduate schools.  So it is important to take into consideration, possible individuals that you would like to write reference letters for you.  Do not wait until the last minute because you need to provide these individuals with enough time to write the letter.
  • Consider scheduling an appointment with he/she when their schedule is free to discuss information that is needed in the reference letter.
  • Below there is a form that I used when I was requesting reference letters.  This helps for you to get organized and to have different components that could be included in your reference letter.  You can include other areas on your form, these were the areas that I used.
  • Have the application due date to provide to the individual writing your reference letter.
  • Do Not Wait Until the Last Minute to Request Reference Letters

Below is a great handout from Seattle Pacific University entitled:
RECOMMENDATION LETTER ETIQUETTE:  Guidelines for Requesting a Faculty Reference  http://www.spu.edu/depts/eng/documents/RECOMMENDATIONLETTEREtiquette.pdf
