Obtaining Your Speech Pathologist Degree Online by Rachel May

Speech pathologists, also known as speech therapists, have a very rewarding career.
They diagnose and treat individuals with various speech and language disorders by
using techniques that are specific to each disorder. If a patient has a speech disorder
that is brought on by anxiety or an emotional issue, they will treat the underlying
disorder as well.

Speech therapists work in hospitals and medical centers, and many have their
own practices as well. In order to work as a speech pathologist, individuals must
complete specific education requirements before they can earn their license. If you
are someone who is interested in becoming a speech pathologist, there are online
courses available that allow you the convenience of completing a majority of your
education requirements on your own schedule, from the comfort of your home
computer.

There are certain areas of study that need to be completed on site, including clinical
internships and exams, but the convenience of online learning provides a great
opportunity for individuals who have scheduling issues that may interfere with full
time on campus courses.

Reputable Online Speech Pathologist Programs
There are a variety of online colleges that offer courses in speech pathology as
well as SLPA (Speech Language Pathology Assistant) certification programs that
allow students to get to work in as little as 12 weeks. Working as an SLPA while
continuing your education is a great way to learn how a speech pathologist works in
a hands on way.

earn an M.S. in Speech Pathology as well as an on-campus Doctoral program where
speech pathologists can further their education and speech pathology careers by
earning their Doctor of Speech-Language Pathology degrees.

East Carolina University
East Carolina University offers a special program for individuals looking to earn
their M.S. in Communications Sciences & Disorders degree online. This is a distance
learning program offered to students who are unable to study on campus due to
distance issues. This three-year program allows students who qualify the ability
to take courses online while completing the required clinical internships in their
geographic area. This is a great program for students who do not have access to
educational facilities in their immediate areas.

University of Northern Colorado
The University of Northern Colorado offers an online degree program where
students can earn an M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology. Areas of study include
language and literacy disorders, fluency disorders, voice disorders, dysphagia,
and evidence based practice. Students who earn their certification through the
University of Northern Colorado online are allowed to apply for their Certificate of
Clinical Competence in Speech and Language Pathology in order to obtain their state
license.
