Get Organized: Finding a System that Works Best for Each Individual

8/16/2011

It is important to have an organized system that works best to fit each individual's needs.  The pictures above provide the framework for my system that helps to keep me organized on a daily basis.
  • The picture to the far left shows my Daily Goals & To-Do Tasks Board with colored paper that has each day as the heading. The colored paper is used as the background and then I use sticky notes or grocery store notepads to write down relevant information. This board highlights  Daily Goals and To-Do Tasks for Each Day.  For example, I may write down five daily goals and five to-do tasks for Monday.  I find this to be beneficial because I have a visual, when I write the information down I am really thinking through each task & goal for the day.  I hold myself accountable by writing it down.  If I do not get to do a specific task then I have it on schedule for the next day.
  • The picture in the center shows an Overview of my Daily Schedule.  This Schedule is vague and typically does not change, it is pretty consistent.  It is for all seven days, it includes tasks such as breakfast, working out, inspiration (i.e. quotes for the day), etc.  When I developed my schedule I strayed away from common labels such as "work" and "exercising."  Instead for "exercising" I use the label " Great Health Plan"  and for "work" each day is different.  Mondays are "Never a Dull Moment," Tuesdays are "Making a Difference," and each day is something different.  I do not consider my job "work,"  I love being a Speech Language Pathologist and I enjoy developing this website and blog.  Instead of "school work"  or "anatomy homework" try switching the labels to " success plan" or "future career information"  Have fun with the labels, try not to limit what you are doing to just work because it encompasses so much more!
  • The picture to the far right shows an overview of my On the Go Planner.  The On the Go Planner consists of social gatherings, specific dates and times, birthdays, different events or tasks, meetings, etc.  This works great for me because it travels in my car, in my purse, to my office, or wherever I go.  If I need to write something down, I have my On the Go Planner.

Above is how I organize my life and it really has been a vital tool for me to accomplish so many goals and tasks. I am a visual person so that is why I use a lot of different bright colors and write everything on paper.  It takes more time and schedules can be created online as well, but this is the way that works best for me.

What system do you use to organize your daily events/tasks?
