I love being a Speech Pathologist, but throughout my career I have had a burning desire to share my knowledge, messages and resources with a wider audience. I needed to reach more parents to equip them with the tools they need to develop their children’s communication skills. What better platform to do this then with a blog! I started my blog in 2014 and taught myself everything there was to know about blogging, and I’m still learning. I love blogging, especially because it has allowed me to nurture an amazing community of likeminded people who are passionate like me! My blog is called The SpeeL (a little play on the words speech and language) and I target my blog posts at parents. A large number of my readers are Speech Language Pathologists and they regularly use the blog posts as a resource for the parents of the kids they work with. As a result, I have developed a section of my website called “Just for Speechies” and there are two new resources there that I want to share with you. If you’re a new Speech Pathologist working with kids, you may be interested in my new little ebook called the "Toolbox for Paediatric Speech Language Pathologists.” I collated all of the tools that I have in my kit that I cant live without. Having worked as a home visiting therapist, and also in a job with multiple work sites, I had to have a reliable toolbox with everything that I could possibly need in my sessions. Later in the year I will be releasing it as a physical kit (it will be quite large), but for now you can get the ebook. You can check it out here: http://www.thespeel.com/product/toolbox-for-paediatric-speech-language-pathologists/ Those who know me, know that I am really passionate about speechies sharing resources and ideas and of course blogging is a great platform for this. I had so many speechies asking me how I started my blog that I have created a course called “Start a Blog from Scratch” that goes for four hours and the end result is a complete blog (with wordpress.com) and a plan for the blog’s future. You can see it here: http://www.thespeel.com/start-blog-scratch-speech-pathologists/ I love to share as much free content, news and resources will all of my readers. If you pop over to my blog www.thespeel.com you will see that there are endless blog posts that you can print off as PDFs, free developmental expectation charts, printables and an email newsletter that you can sign up for. I also love to chat, so if you have any questions, just send them through to me at [email protected] About the Author: Alex Trichilo is an Australian Speech Pathologist and blogger at www.thespeel.com with a passion for giving all children the communication skills to be able to successfully live their life. She blogs to spread her messages to a wider audience and to empower parents to give their children the foundational skills of speech and language.
